Week of May 20th

Meeting of the minds. It's amazing how they communicate.

Playing while I tend the bees

The exchange

Perfect comb.

I had never noticed this demonstration before. While pulling frames apart
to check the brood, the bees made a chain to try to keep them together. Not sure exactly what they are doing, but it doesn't seem to hurt them.

5-14-13 Visit/Feeding

Going to be a warm day today(in the 90's), so went early to orchard hives. Visited winery hive last night, had to make a short trip as Jackson Temps in 70's already. Both have growing larvae. Both look healthy. Added second brood super on one of them, even though it doesn't like like it needs it quite yet. Will watch and see what happens. Apple trees in full bloom and grass about 12-16" tall.

5-5-13 Bee Visit

Comb Buildout

Gathering at the top of the frames.
They do this when it's cool to maintain some heat at the top of their supers.

Multitude

Centralized in this image there is a worker chewing it's way out of its comb.
Ready to emerge.
Growing larvae within the comb

Temps in mid 50's with light breeze. All colonies show signs of larvae but lesser egg
laying from queen as it was very cold and snowed last week.
